Bird toy too small for Rosella

I ordered a Prevue Pet 60403 Birdie Decor Bird Toy – Brass Chandelier bird toy for my Eastern Rosella because he loves bells. But I threw this toy out the minute I got it because it’s made with unsafe type bells–the clapper is not all one solid piece but has a place that a bird’s curious tongue could get caught in it.

I find this is a problem with many, if not most, bells made for smaller birds.

Dear Patricia

I am sorry the bird toy was not satisfactory for your bird. This is one of our most popular parakeet or cockatiel toys.

It is not really a Rosella toy (a Rosella is 4-5 times as large as a parakeet). For the little keets, they are really not affected adversely by the inexpensive small bird toys that may contain bells attached as you described and can safely play with this toy for a long time.

All bell clappers must have a slit to attach to the bell. On pricier toys, or stainless steel toys, they are often spot welded and the toy cost reflects this time consuming job.

You are not likely to ever find a welded clapper on a toy under $5, usually more.

Even on many expensive toys they may have an unwelded clapper.

Yes, I know many birds like to explore the clappers on bells. If your bird is more likely to dive right into the bell for the clappers then you would be best to invest in toys that are priced to include this extra step or get toys without bells at all.

Thank you for your review.

Mango Pet Bird Cages

It’s hard when you have to abandon an expensive bird cage like a cage from the California Bird cage company because you’re moving. If you’re seeking a superior bird cage, the Mango bird cages are of superior quality because they’re hand made in Rhode Island.

It’s a small operation, we know Eric the owner who’s an engineer by trade (ergo the disinfectants from Mango). I’m a rare cage retailer whose actually worked in a powdercoat facility and I know what happens when you’re running hundreds of pieces an hour through the oven vs just a few components. The care they take in manufacturing the bird cages is apparent upon inspection but as you saw they carry a “hand made” price tag.

We also like the the way the front of the cage opens and very large doors. Yes it’s a throw back to the California Bird Cage Company of years past. It (the California Bird Cage Company) was a shadow of it’s old self in the waning years of business. I’m certain you’re not happy about abandoning your cage, but much like a mattress and box springs, transport is expensive

Animal Hoarding Information

Animal Hoarding Information by Annie Hoarding Hello pet lovers! I’m a researcher for the series Confessions: Animal Hoarding, currently airing on Animal Planet that tells the stories of people overwhelmed by the number of pets they own. The problem is on the rise and affects communities across America. Most animal hoarders don’t see themselves as hoarders, and sometimes don’t intentionally collect animals. Most of these situations aren’t dealt with until they become criminal. This results in animals being euthanized by over-stressed shelters, and doesn’t address the underlying psychological issues – meaning nearly 100% of people end up in the same situation again. We are dedicated to finding comprehensive long-term solutions and believe therapy to be key to this. We can bring in experts to help. If you or someone you know needs help because animals have overrun their life, visit www.animalhoardingproject.com to learn more and submit their story. Alternatively, email help@animalhoardingproject.com or toll-free at 1 -877-698-7387. We will treat all submissions with confidentiality and respect. Please share this info with your communities, we want to get the word out across the USA and Canada and help as many people as we can. Thanks!

Review: Pet Tents by Hangall

Parrots are prey animals. They enjoy the cover of the leaves of the trees they’re in, in the wild. Bird tents give your place to feel save while in their bird cage. They’re easy to hang and are washable.

We get asked all the time, “won’t my bird chew these pent tents up?” We can’t say. Every bird is different. We sell LOTS of these and many bird seem to enjoy the privacy they afford. to learn more about HangAll pet tents for birds – click here
