Concerns about voice changes in Diamond Doves

The vocal folds are in the syrinx which is located at the of the trachea and then is divided into left and right bronchus. Once a birds voice changes it may be a sign that that area is inflamed or infected possibly even a fungal infection which is a fairly common cause of birds voice is to change.

There can also be something stuck in their trachea, a piece of seed a splinter from a toy or even a piece of fungus. You need to be careful because any of these could obstruct airflow into the respiratory tract.

You also need to rule out inhalation of any possible toxins such as cigarette smoke, gasoline fuel, hairspray, cleaning products so forth.

New and Improved Hagen Tropican Mash Hand-Feeding Formula is Best Ever

Hagen Tropican Mash Baby Bird Food Hand Feeding Formula for Parrots - 2.2 lb

New and Improved Hagen Tropican Mash Hand-Feeding Formula is Best Ever

Parrot breeders all over the world trust Hagen Tropican Mash Hand-Feeding Formula for providing their precious baby birds with all the essential nutrients necessary for excellent growth and brilliant plumage.
A long-time favourite among aviculturists, the baby food formula is now vastly improved and now made in Canada in our Montreal facility, Hagen Industries, as always in conjunction with our renowned Hagen Avicultural Research Institute (HARI).

Many Major Benefits
With new and improved Tropican Mash Hand-Feeding Formula, breeders and their baby parrots will enjoy many major benefits.

For starters, it’s so much easier to mix and it quickly blends in seamlessly to create a smooth and consistent clump-free mash. This makes preparation quick and easy, improves feeding, and enhances digestion.

Tropican’s advanced hand feeding formula continues to deliver all the nutritional potency that has made it a leading food for baby parrots around the world.

Key Ingredients for Proper Growth & Well-being
Josee Bermingham, A.H.T., who is the Facility Manager at HARI, explains that the baby mash is an excellent peanut-derived source of fat and protein as well as a source of 8 essential grains that complement amino acid profiles, all critical to the proper growth and well-being of parrot chicks from hatch through the fledgling age.

Ingredients for the new and improved mash are sourced locally, which means consumers get fresher food faster. In addition, the fact that it’s now made in close geographical proximity to HARI, located in nearby Rigaud, means quicker turnaround times for final HARI quality assurance approvals and enhanced freshness-to-market efficiencies.

Thumbs Up!
Kalpesh Patel, a champion bird breeder in Montreal, field-tested some of our first new batches at his aviary and was very impressed with the new formula.

“It’s very easy to mix with a whisk for small batches and does not clump. There are no small grainy particles and the consistency is very smooth. It does not clog up the feeding syringes. I’ve been using it for my baby parrots and cockatiels and they’re digesting well and fast, crops empty completely between feedings and growth rates are comparable to results of babies raised using another brand,” he said.

Rigorous 3-stage Testing

As with all HARI-approved bird food, Tropican Mash Hand-Feeding Formula undergoes rigorous 3-stage testing, which is unprecedented among bird food makers. Two onsite tests at Hagen Industries and final batch testing at HARI ensure that consumers get safe, dependable and top quality bird food for their treasured feathered friends.

“We are very proud of Tropican’s outstanding 25-year tradition of raising thousands of parrots over several generations at HARI. At a time when most bird food companies have shut their research centres, HARI continues its ongoing work on the research and development of advanced bird nutrition. In fact, it’s the longest-standing research facility dedicated to studying the care and breeding of parrots,” said Mark Hagen, M.Ag., Research Director at HARI.

Why Stick Training Is Important for Birds

parrot resting on the arm of a woman

A stick can be any type of long rod, preferably wood and something that your bird can comfortably grab onto. Although a bird cage perch would seem to make the most sense they are usually too short.

A 3 foot dowel rod of the appropriate diameter can be purchased from your local hardware store or home improvement store. A broomstick can be just as handy.

Booda Comfy Rope Bird Perch for Underseat Carrier

Can you please tell me which LENGTH of Booda Comfy Rope Bird Perch works best for this purpose?
Description says “small is shown” but I think that refers to diameter rather than length.

What kind of bird will be using the bird travel carrier?
If a quaker, cockatiel, conure size the small 14″ should be fine. If a senagal or meyers or small but chubby type bird I would say medium 14. If the bird size sizes to say a grey, amazon, cockatoo, etc, I think a medium 21 would be plenty large enough.
Once the birds get larger than that, I would use without a perch as they will just hunker down and sleep for the trip on the bottom of the carrier, perhaps with a fabric pad made of fleece not terry so no toe nails get caught.

The Difference Between Full Spectrum Bird Cage Bulbs

See All Our Bird Cage Lighting
I was comparing your full spectrum 25 Watt Daylight cage Bulb to the Avian Sun full spectrum 26 watt bulbs sold by zoo-med. What is the UBV wattage (UBA + UBV+ Visable+TRUE full spectrum per ZOO MED)?

Thank you for your inquiry.

We do carry a 25 Watt Full Spectrum Spiral Compact Fluorescent Bulb which retails for much less than the ZooMed bulb.

The difference in bulbs is the metal coatings on the inside of the glass tubes. As the light from the bulb passes through the coated glass, UBA + UBV light waves are added and project from the bulb.

UVB lets birds synthesize Vitamin D3. This process allows for calcium to metabolize. Calcium is important for the strength of bones and the production of eggs.

UVA is visible to birds. It helps them seek mates & tell different species apart.

Both bulbs because of the “full spectrum” properties will make your bird feel better and do a remarkable job of brightening feather colors.

The other difference is the price. You get what you pay for and the UVB/UBA metal coa26 Watt AvianSun Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb with UVA & UVB by ZooMedtings are expensive making the bulb twice the price of many Full Spectrum 25 Watt Daylight Bird Cage Bulb.

If we drill deeper, we know that there are millions of caged birds around the world who are very healthy due today’s modern bird but do not have full spectrum lighting near their cage.

Most of these birds will not be seeking mates nor having to discern other bird species. That said, our economy bulb is a “feel good” bulb. Birds like sunlight and enjoy the a quality light from a “full spectrum” bulb.

Our Indian Ringneck did not visit the Playtop portion of his cage for years until we introduced a full spectrum cage light. From the day the light was installed, he would climb to the top of his bird cage to bask under the new lamp.

UBA + UBV are also supposed to reduce plucking. Sunshine was a plucker in the last years of his life he continued to pluck regardless of the bulbs we introduced to his cages.

Our feeling is if you are concerned about D3 synthesis and are into breeding AND can afford the $28.00 a UBA + UBV style full spectrum bulb would be the choice.

If you’re on a tight budget and would like your bird to simply feel and look good especially in winter, save your money and spend the twelve bucks.

Standard light bulbs must be used in NuAge Bird Cages

I wanted to let you know that the full specturm bird cage light bulb that I just ordered from you will not fit the NuAge bird cage light fixture. The bulb has a broad area just above the screw-in part that makes it incompatible.

Since you sell NuAge cages, I thought you might like to add this information about the bulb so your next customer doesn’t waste money on a bulb that won’t fit!

 Rebecca M.

Dear Becky

We thank you for letting us know about the bulb not fitting the NuAge Cages. I don’t think anyone knew that.

This may be a problem with the new curly bulbs replacing the round incandescent bulbs that are being phased out.

The NuAge bird cages will have to be altered to allow for these types of bulbs as the round ones are going away, they were already supposed to be gone but the US Gov has delayed the ban.

We truly appreciate you telling us about this. I will contact NuAge bird cage compnay and anyone else involved with this and let them know.

These are truly good and healthy full spectrum bulbs and will fit any normal lamp socket and can be used in the bird room or any place in the home, except obviously the NuAge bird cages.

 Thank you
