Flighted Or Clipped Wings – Our Readers Weigh In

You asked whether our birds are flighted.

All three of our birds – African Grey, Dusky Pionus, Cockatiel – are fully flighted.

We have a lot of large windows in our apartment but so far we have not had a problem.

They all have their favorite routes and pretty much stick to them.

The only time we have clipped our bird’s wings is when we were traveling internationally and they had to go through the health and customs inspections at the airports.

He says Kiwi is always like that but I thought the parakeets got along.

Keeping Birds and Parrots Flighted

Hello All

And thanks for your contributions to this often difficult topic.

Yes, it is true that flighted birds may have accidents, which some folks may attribute to their being flighted.

But then birds whose flight has been impaired also have accidents due to flight impairment.

How Do I Handle My 2 Amazon Rescues Both With a Broken Wing?

Good Morning, I am rescuing 2 abused Amazon parrots – Male / Female.

Both have 1 broken wing and cannot fly.

Female about 4-5 years old).

The male (about 15 yrs) picks the top of this wing and has scabs – not healed – what can I do to promote healing?

From my observation, both birds are under extreme stress.

Please let me know what I can apply topically to prevent further picking and plucking.
