How long should it take for a Cockatiel to grow back clipped wing feathers?

I have a 7 month old cockatiel, he’s super happy all the time and is “shedding” his down feathers constantly lately. The people we bought him from at about 2 to 3 months old were clipping his wings and he still hasn’t been able to fly properly. We keep him clean, happy, and healthy.

my answer

For the record we are proponents of keeping birds flighted. So if a person loses a bird because it is flighted and they walked outside with the bird on their shoulder un-tethered – they are a dumbass.

What is the minimum cage size for a Green Cheek Conure?

What is the minimum bird cage size for a Green Cheek Conure?

When we first bought a cage for our GCC (Green Cheek Conure) we decided a really big one was the best option. But now it’s hell to clean it, even once a week. What is the minimum cage size for a GCC and what can I do to keep the cage cleaner?

There are no minimums nor maximums for birdcages. If we all had the correct dimensions and answers, rescues wouldn’t be full of unwanted birds.

Cockatoos – learning about a few of the species

By request from one of our Facebook fans, Teresa – we will start off talking about the Goffin cockatoo. Known formally as the Tanimbar Corella. These adorable little birds are about 12 inches long from head to tail.

The males weigh about 300 g (about 10 oz) and the females weigh about 50 g less. Like many other cockatoos they have a crest they raise and lower on top their head.

As Cockatoos go, this one is a quieter Cockatoo which makes it a terrific pet. You have to be careful what you do in front of these birds like opening the cage latch because they will watch it and mimic it rather quickly.

I have two love birds that are approaching 20 years of age and was wondering if there are special nutrition or habitat changes I should make for them.

Mitch replied Feb 8, 10:09pm

Beth – do you know their sex?

Beth W replied Feb 9, 6:29pm

They are both male peach faced love birds, one is a year older than the other. The older bird is having problems with his balance occasionally.

Do power lines affect the health of birds, when they perch on them?

Questions about birds I answered on Quora the week of 3/13/17

Do power lines affect the health of birds, when they perch on them?

I can’t speak to power lines but I know that Quaker parrots are colonial animals. They build large nests where a whole colony can live enabling them to survive brutal Chicago winters.

A heat source they seek out and build their nests in is electrical transformers. CommEd has access to a number of Quaker rescues who will come and get the birds when requested.

Those Lovable Lovebirds – 9 Lovebird Videos

Lovebirds are native to the African continent while the Gray-headed lovebird also known as the Madagascar lovebird comes from of all places, Madagascar. Lovebirds are known for their strong monogamous relationships and spend a lot of time being together wing to wing.

They are capable of having close relationships with people in addition to their chosen companion. They like to snuggle with people and quite often they will train their humans. You’re really better off spending short periods throughout the day with your lovebird rather than just one or two longer interactions, the way you would with a larger parrot. Lovebirds can be noisy but are not necessarily good talkers.
